Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn located in Massachusetts. The parents of her were Lithuanian Jews Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. After her father died in the role of a carnival barker as a young girl She was required to support the family working both as a cleaner and a server. Ruth was born in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts in which she went to school. She quit the institution she was in within two years of her education in pursuit of the profession of acting. The path she chose was not without obstacles. When she was in New York, her first job involved posing stills for crime magazines. acting work she longed to do was abyssal. Then in NYC, she was employed in a bar as a check-in girl before quitting before moving to Boston. There, she made enough money by working as an usher throughout the day, and working at night in the New England Repertory Company, her first regular acting gig. She graduated with a diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
